Rheinmetall Denel Munition lands international contract

Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) will supply a complete suite of advanced 155mm Assegai projectiles to Australia’s largest privately owned defence company NIOA, under the LAND 17-1C2 Future Artillery Ammunition programme for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

This 100 million Australian dollar contract, in partnership with Rheinmetall Defence, Rheinmetall Nitrochemie and Junghans Microtec, was tendered on last year. RDM’s portion of the initial contract for the qualification ammunition and war stock is approximately 60 million Australian dollars.

After successful qualification of the ammunition with the in-service 155mm weapon system in Australia, RDM will receive orders on an annual basis for training ammunition.

RDM will supply the complete family of ballistically matched Assegai projectiles with extended range, improved accuracy and increased effect, replacing the ADF’s older generation ammunition. This latest technology includes the full suite of ammunition like the High Explosive, V-LAP High Explosive Extended Range, visual and infrared illumination and smoke and practice rounds as well as modular charges for training.

The advanced, integrated family of 155mm ammunition is currently in-service with NATO countries around the world, and thus immediately available to the Australian Defence Force.

Established in September 2008, Rheinmetall Denel Munition has been able to access several world markets previously not available to Denel. Since 2009, the company’s exports have grown from approximately 50% to reach record levels of 80% in 2017.
