The Minister for Defence Material, Hon Jason Clare, has visited Navantia’s facilities in Fene-Ferrol, Northern Spain. Yesterday, the Minister had a meeting in Madrid with Luis Cacho, CEO of Navantia, where they discussed current programs and the possibility of future cooperation between Navantia and the Royal Australian Navy.
Today, the Minister has visited Fene-Ferrol shipyard in order to tour the facilities and observe the construction of 2 LHD’s for the Royal Australian Navy (Canberra and Adelaide), as well as the status of the AWD engineering, based on the Spanish Navy F-100 frigates, which are being built in Adelaide.
“I am very impressed by the efforts of the Navantia team that has carried out the program within budget and ahead of schedule. The Australian navy will have the biggest ships in its history, even bigger than our current aircraft carrier. This will give Australia and our region impressive capabilities”, said the Hon Jason Clare.
