A Yemeni woman arrested in the capital Sanaa on suspicion of involvement in sending explosive packages to the United States was detained along with her mother, a defence lawyer said.
“Her acquaintances tell me that she is a quiet student and there was no knowledge of her having involvement in any religious or political groups,” Abdel Rahman Burman, the suspect’s defence lawyer, told Reuters.
“I’m concerned the girl is a victim, because it doesn’t make sense that the person who would do this kind of operation would leave a picture of their ID and their phone number,” he added.
He said she was arrested with her mother but did not give further details.
A Yemeni security source had earlier said that security forces traced the woman through a telephone number she left with a cargo company.
