Comment sought on new secrecy Bill

The Ad Hoc Committee on Protection of Information Legislation (National Assembly) has invited interested individuals and organisations to submit written submissions on the Protection of Information Bill [B6 – 2010] by June 25.

The Bill seeks to provide for the protection of certain information from destruction, loss or unlawful disclosure; to regulate the manner in which information may be protected; to repeal the Protection of Information Act, 1982; and to provide for matters connected therewith, the Parliamentary Monitoring Group says.

Written submissions can be emailed to the Committee Secretary Ms Ntombe Mbuqe at [email protected] by no later than noon on Friday June 25. Public hearings for those selected for verbal presentations will be held at Parliament on Wednesday and Thursday July 21-22.

Mbuqe can be reached at 021 403-2319 or 083 709 8432.
