Police muster 146 generals


The South African Police Service currently musters 146 officers of general rank, 652 if its cohort of brigadiers are included. National Treasury figures show the national police currently had an establishment of 190 199 posts in the year to March 2010 and was projected to grow to 202 260 posts by April 2014.

Police minister Nathi Mthethwa, in answer to a question by his opposition Democratic Alliance party shadow, Dianne Kohler Barnard, listed on general – national police commissioner Bheki Cele – 26 lieutenant generals, 119 major generals and 506 brigadiers.
