New Chief of Defence Intelligence appointed

Major General Shilubane, the acting Chief of Defence Intelligence, has been confirmed in the post. A statement released after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting reads that the national executive “noted Major General Abel Mxolisi Shilubane’s intended appointment to the post of Chief Defence Intelligence in the Department of Defence and Military Veterans.”

He replaces Lieutenant General Maomela “Mojo” Motau who resigned his post shortly before last April’s general election. Motau is now defence minister Lindiwe Sisulu’s military adviser.

Other appointments confirmed include Eric Siphiwe Sokhela as Chief Financial Officer in the Department of Correctional Services and Johannes Petrus Engelbrecht as General Manager in the Government Printing Works. The latter entity is an agency of the Department of Home Affairs and among other tasks prints Identity Documents and passports. Sokhela replaces Nandi Mareka, the acting CFO who replaced CFO Patrick Gillingham who was suspended after being implicated in corrupt practices. Mareka was later suspended on the same suspicions.
