Algerian floods kill 9

Nine people died and a rescue worker was missing in flooding in southern Algeria, official media reported.

At least 43 people were injured when torrential rains at the weekend ruined their houses, making 127 families homeless in El Bayadh province, 700 km (430 miles) southwest of the capital Algiers, state news agency APS said, Reuters reports.

Schools have been closed, several roads are blocked and a number of bridges collapsed.
