US conducts air strikes against al Shabaab

The United States has carried out two air strikes against al Shabaab targets in Somalia, the US military has announced.

US Africa Command said the air strikes were carried out on 23 January near Jilib, Middle Juba Region, Somalia, in support of the Federal Government of Somalia’s continued efforts to degrade al Shabaab.

“US Africa Command conducted the airstrikes to increase pressure on the al-Shabaab network and degrade its ability to plot and conduct operations. At this time we assess no civilians were injured or killed in these airstrikes,” Africa Command said.
