Top Renamo official shot by unknown assailants

A senior official of Mozambique’s Renamo opposition party was shot and wounded on Wednesday, hours after he accused pro-government militia of killing and abducting members of his party, police said.

Manuel Bissopo, the Secretary General of Renamo, was shot by unknown assailants after holding a press conference in Beira, the second largest city in the southern African country.

He was hospitalised after the shooting, police said. His bodyguard was killed.
