Implant Sciences supplying explosives detectors for Nigerian airlines and airports


Homeland security and defence company Implant Sciences Corporation has sold explosives trace detectors to ASL Airlines Services in Lagos, Nigeria. ASL will use the Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 system to screen food and beverage service carts on aircraft.

ASL Airlines Services caters 700 flight handlings per month for airlines including British Airways, Delta, Lufthansa, Air France and numerous others.

Implant Sciences made the Nigerian sale through Lagos-based A C Belgrave, an in-country distributor for Implant Sciences’ products.
“We are penetrating international markets by working with local distributors like A C Belgrave who know their market, have the requisite relationships with decision makers, and are executing on presenting the superiority of our products for designated applications,” stated Implant Sciences’ President and CEO, Glenn D Bolduc.
“We’ve been anticipating increased demand for our Quantum Sniffers in Nigeria and throughout Africa. This sale affirms we are building traction and we expect this trend to continue.”

In January Implant Sciences announced that Rwanda had bought its Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 portable explosives trace detectors for use by its Presidential Guard Unit.

The sales were made through one of Implant Sciences’ US-based distributors, Security Detection Inc.
“Our domestic and global distribution networks have very effectively expanded our reach around the world. Recently, we’ve seen increasing interest in our products from the African continent,” said Bolduc at the time. “The Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 is currently used in embassies around the globe, and it is ideally suited for use in Presidential and VIP security due to the device’s portability, reliability, and ease of use.”

The QS-H150 is a handheld explosives trace detector that uses Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) to rapidly detect and identify trace amounts of a wide variety of military, commercial, and homemade explosives. It is able to detect the presence of parts per trillion (ppt) of explosives molecules without physical contact.

The device takes 15 minutes to warm up and between 1 and 5 seconds to detect a variety of explosives, including Semtex, C4, RDX, NC, PETN, EGDN, TNT, Dynamite, HMX ANFO, smokeless powder, black powder, and others. Its database can be expanded if required, according to Implant Sciences.
