The Kenya Navy has launched the passenger boat Upindi II to ferry naval personnel and their families.
Kenya Navy Base Commander Brigadier William Charo Kombe presided over the launch of Upindi II, a Harbour Sea Launch (HSL), at the Mtongwe jetty on 3 August 2018.
The newly built boat arrived in Kenya on 26 June from India and is being used to ferry naval personnel and their families across the Kilindini channel from Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe jetty to the Kenya Ports Authority pier. It joins HSL Uta which has been performing the same task, the Kenyan Ministry of Defence said.
Upindi II is a twin-engine boat with a passenger capacity of 120. It is 22 meters long and can cruise at a maximum speed of 14 knots.
