defenceWeb’s traffic has grown from just over 1 000 readers per month in October 2008 to 86 000 visitors and 230 000 hits in September 2018.

2018 marks a decade since defenceWeb was established as South Africa’s leading online defence and security news portal. In that time, defenceWeb has become a well-established and instantly recognised brand in the defence sector.

defenceWeb has covered events far and wide, from Abu Dhabi to Karachi, and just recently successfully wrapped up coverage of the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) 2018 exhibition as an official media partner.

defenceWeb’s traffic has grown enormously over the last 10 years, starting off with just over 1 000 readers per month in October 2008. The following year this had shot up to over 14 000 a month, and in September 2018, defenceWeb recorded 86 000 visitors to the Web site and 230 000 hits.

Its content offering has grown considerably, with 22 different sections from aerospace to sea, land and everything in between, as well as fact files, African military profiles, book reviews and photo galleries. Recent additions include a dedicated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) section to keep a finger on the pulse of this rapidly growing market, and a tenders section that gives an update on all global defence and security-related tenders.

defenceWeb has, over the last decade, not only covered hundreds of exhibitions, but hosted its own high-profile events, such as border security and public order policing conferences, which have been attended by ministers and other high-ranking government officials. Through this, defenceWeb has lived up to its motto of serving the key opinion-formers and decision-makers in the defence and security sectors.

defenceWeb’s growth has been assisted by its industry partners and sponsors and its signature Virtual Press Office currently serves over 20 local and international clients, giving them a platform that allows them to communicate their news, products and services to the local and global industry. The Virtual Press Office offering has recently been expanded with defenceWeb’s Partner Content service, which provides a more tailored and audience-focused approach for companies.

The last decade has consolidated defenceWeb’s position as Africa’s leading defence and security portal, with unrivalled news and in-depth coverage that is hard to match. Over the last decade, defenceWeb has published some 51 000 articles as well as 4 600 photos in its galleries. defenceWeb says it is sure that in the next 10 years, these numbers will grow significantly, and it invites you to share this exciting journey with the company.
