AMMS, the defence ordnance company belonging to the Atlantis Corporation Group of companies received an Amscor contract to supply submarine signals.
The signals of the parachute flare and smoke marker type are used to indicate the submarine position during emergency rescue, naval tactical exercises’ or when surfacing near shipping lanes.
This is a follow on contract from the initial study phase in which AMMS first determined the operational performance and the platform launcher interfaces to satisfy the user’s requirements.
The SA Navy requirement stemmed from the need to improve the performance of the signals in the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans due to seas states and ocean depths encountered in northern waters.
The AMMS project involved Thales Australia, Veecraft Marine and the recent Product acceptance was supported by the Australian Joint Proof & Experimental Establishment unit in Greytown in conjunction with Armscor and the SA Navy.
