Soldier shoots, wounds civilian in Limpopo

Soldiers on Op Notlela patrol duty in Limpopo were involved in a shooting incident that saw a civilian hit in the leg.

Indications are the soldiers were intimidated with at least one civilian threatening to take an R5 assault rifle. That, according to a Defence Media Liaison, was when a shot went off hitting the civilian. He was attended by a local doctor and taken to hospital. An attempted murder case was opened at Magwadi police station.

In July, soldiers helping police prevent a mob justice incident in Chochocho village near Acornhoek in Mpumalanga also found themselves in an incident involving civilians.

A soldier, reportedly acting in self-defence, shot and killed a firearm wielding civilian. The incident was reported to local police and a murder docket opened.
