The SANDF has warned young men and women in particularly the Ficksburg area of Free State not to be taken in by a group maintaining it is mobilising people for integration into the defence force.
“The group, calling itself Amabutho Royal Defence, is extorting money from people with the promise to integrate them into the SANDF. Its representatives pose either as a force that is going to be integrated or a recruitment agency for the SANDF.
“The SANDF strongly condemns activities aimed at deliberately misleading the public regarding integration in the SANDF. Members of the public are encouraged to report them and any people who solicit money with the promise of integration into the SANDF to the nearest South African Police Service station or SANDF base or station,” Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga said.
He also pointed out there is no further integration planned for the defence force – integration finished when the Termination of Intake Act of 2001 and the Demobilisation Amendment Act of the same year were written into law.
“This was further confirmed by a North Gauteng High Court judgement in 2012. It handed down a judgement dismissing an application by a group wanting to be integrated into the SANDF,” he said.
