SANDF Reserves to compete in international military skills competition

A seven strong team representing the SANDF Reserve Force flies to Bulgaria today to fly the South African flag in an international military skills competition there.

Among disciplines they will compete in are crossing land and water obstacles, shooting the AK47 and Makarov pistol, grenade throwing and a military orienteering march.

Team members are Major Labuschagne of 3 Parachute Battalion, Lieutenant De Toit of Regiment President Steyn, Sergeant Daniels of the SA Irish Regiment, Rifleman Mdlalose of 3 Parachute Battalion, Rifleman Veto of First City Regiment and riflemen Neethling and Mogejane, both of Regiment Mooi River.

Team manager is Lieutenant colonel Uys van der Westhuijzen, who also managed the Reserve Force senior team that took part in last year’s CIOR (Inter Allied Confederation of Reserve Officers) International Military Skills competition. It was held in Germany and the South Africans finished first.

Van der Westhuijzen has been selected as a member of the technical jury for the competition in Bulgaria.
