SANDF holds medal parade

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) today held a medal parade in Pretoria where it is handed out long service and Mandela medals.

The parade was officiated by SANDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Vusi Masondo. It started with a flypast by Oryx and A109 helicopters followed by drills and military band music at Erusmuskloof in Pretoria this morning.

Masondo, on behalf of Chief of the SANDF, conferred one medal for 50 years’ long service; 25 medals for 40 years’ long service and 89 medals for 30 years’ long service.

Lieutenant General Norman Yengeni, who heads the Department of Defence Human Resources, received a Mandela Silver Medal. He is due to retire later this year.
“The purpose of the event is to acknowledge members for their tirelessly contribution and dedication in serving the country,” the SANDF said.
