The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has held a parade to award long service medals to its Legal Services Division.
The parade took place at the Pretoria Military Sport Ground in Thaba Tshwane on 5 September and was presided over by the Adjutant General of the South African National Defence Force, Major General Eric Zano Mnisi.
Mnisi conferred medals to members who have rendered good service to the Defence Force over the years. Thirty-three medals were awarded, including 12 medals for 20 years Good Service, eight medals for ten years Good Service, and ten medals for ten years Faithful Service. Three Tshumelo Ikatelhao medals were also awarded.
“It is part of our military heritage to give medals to honour military personnel for their deeds or achievements while in service of the state,” Mnisi said.
“Such medals are given to soldiers who have shown qualities worthy of the type of medal or medals awarded. To the recipients, I want to congratulate you. Most of you are worthy recipients of these medals. Please wear them with humility. Always remember those who have supported you throughout your careers,” he said.
