This year marks the 95th anniversary of military aviation in South Africa and, according to the SA Air Force (SAAF) website, “ultimately celebrates 95 years of the existence of an air force on South African soil”.
Air Force Chief Lieutenant General Zakes Msimang has announced a competition open to all SAAF members and their colleagues in the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) to use their artistic and creative talents to design a logo for the milestone anniversary.
The winning submission will, in addition to receiving an as yet unspecified prize, be widely used during the year on letterheads, flags, posters, banners and corporate gifts among others.
To assist those wanting to exercise their creative talent SAAF director: corporate staff services Brigadier General Marthie Visser has offered five guidelines.
They are simplicity, inclusion of the SAAF slogan “an air force that inspires confidence”; making use of the colours of the national flag and/or the SAAF, including the national theme of 21 years of freedom and democracy and making sure the number 95 forms part of the logo design.
Entries must be submitted to the Directorate Corporate Staff Services at SAAF headquarters by January 21.
At present there is no further information available on events planned to mark the 95th anniversary of the airborne arm of service of the SANDF.
