President Cyril Ramaphosa offers condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and comrades of the late former Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Kebby Maphatsoe.
Maphatsoe – a liberation fighter, Umkhonto we Sizwe combatant, student leader and parliamentarian – passed away on Tuesday, 31 August 2021.
President Ramaphosa said: “Kebby Maphatsoe was a leader of our struggle who brought his militancy and passionate activism to all leadership roles he occupied, including in Parliament and in the administration.
“Most recently, he was a tireless fighter for a better life for our military veterans, whose sacrifices delivered the freedom we enjoy today. May his soul rest in peace.”
Maphatsoe, born on 31 December 1962, was the president of the now-disbanded MKMVA. He died of cardiac arrest last week and was laid to rest on Sunday.
At the time of his passing, Maphatsoe was part of the team that was planning a conference of former ANC soldiers aimed at uniting the MK national council and MKMVA.
