Mr M.H. Steele (DA) to ask the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans:

1. With reference to each specified (a) battalion, (b) regiment and (c) squadron of the SA Army, what is the (i) total number of posts (aa) planned, (bb) filled, (cc) vacant/surplus and (ii) percentage of posts vacant/posts surplus in respect of each specified occupation in the SA Army?

Notes        
1. The approved Production (Regular) posts in column 2 above (yellow) are not funded.(Only feet on the ground, current strength, are funded).
2. The current Regular strength refelected in column 3 above (blue) are funded (feet on the ground (FOG) principle – applied since 1994.
3. Within column 4 above (pink) certain musterings are 100% staffed as well as more than 100% (surplus), due to:
a. Closure of units.        
b. Amalgamation of units.        
c. Members being area bound. (As a result of social/financial/medical/welfare cirumstances.        
d. Members awaiting the approval of the most recent staffing/placement process (Feb 2010).        
e. Changed structures.
