Military careers on show at Armed Forces Day

Attracting the right people to the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) will also form part of this month’s Armed Forces Day event in Potchefstroom.

A career exhibition in the town’s Trim Park has been set up specifically with scholars from grades nine to 12 in mind. Specialists from the SANDF Personnel Acquisition Department will be on hand to advise on careers available in all four arms of service as well as provide assistance on career directions. This includes combat, support and other disciplines.

An SANDF spokesman said the Armed Forces Day career promotion on February 21 was the first of a number of exhibitions planned across the country to create awareness of military career opportunities. At this stage SANDF career information will be available at the Navy Festival in Simon’s town from March 20 to 22 and the Rand Show in Johannesburg from April 3 to 12.

In August and October 2013 Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula was at the forefront of two recruitment drives. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Eastern Cape was stop number one for the minister in what was billed at the time as a national public education and recruitment drive. Two months later she was again the face of the SANDF during a recruitment drive at the University of North West’s Mafikeng campus.
