The last group of recruits for the 2010 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) left Johannesburg yesterday to commence with basic military training at Air Force Base Hoedspruit.
The group of 270 formed part of this year’s January intake of 4463 and left for Hoedspruit from Johannesburg’s Park Station. The others have already reported at various units for training.
The defence department says that faced “with an aging military equipment and shortage of skills, particularly skilled black personnel in critical musterings, the Air Force has embarked on an ambitious recruitment drive to curb such deficiencies through the MSDS introduced … in 2003.”
After completion of their basic military training, deserving MSDS recruits will be afforded an opportunity to undergo training at various SA Air Force training units towards their chosen career path.
