The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) warns there is a military skills development (MSD) programme recruitment scam using various social media platforms going on.
“Fraudulent application forms alleging to be recruiting the youth for the MSD system are on various social media platforms. The source/s and/or perpetrator/s of the scam are currently unknown.
“The public is warned to ignore and report these fraudulent activities instigated by faceless charlatans aimed at swindling unsuspecting and vulnerable youth of their money,” an SANDF statement said.
Every January the SANDF publishes application forms in various national newspapers and on its website. Application is free but there is no guarantee of being accepted as numbers for the MSD programme are limited.
Fit young men and women who are keen to join the SANDF are advised to contact the force’s human resources acquisition office on either 012 339 5626 or 012 339 5781 during office hours for further details.
The SANDF asks the public not to be taken in by any fraudulent application forms on social media as these have no legal standing. Instead, people are requested to obtain as much detail as possible and report it to either the nearest SANDF unit or police station.
