Today marks the start of Army Week when the landward component of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) stands up and shows itself to the wider military community in South Africa and the region.
One important component of the week will be missing this year.
SA Army Chief Lieutenant General Vusi Masondo will not be able to introduce his new generals to the single largest arm of service in the SANDF. This is one of three major functions planned for the week but will not take place because the annual promotions and transfers signal has not yet been released by SANDF Chief General Solly Shoke.
SANDF spokesman Captain (SAN) Prince Tshabalala told defenceWeb the signal would go out “sometime during the course of next week”.
That means the Army’s biggest in-house event of the year will now only see two functions – a gala evening and an awards evening. Both will take place at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria West.
While no official confirmation was forthcoming from the Army, defenceWeb has reliably learnt the introduction and inauguration of new and promoted generals will happen in February.
