A delegation from the Cuban Embassy together with a representative of the Cuban Co-operation Brigades in South Africa has paid a visit to the South African Air Force Museum at Air Force Base Swartkop.
The visiting delegation was welcomed by Major Ntokozo Ntshangase, Acting Officer Commanding SA Air Force Museum and Warrant Officer Alan Taylor, SA Air Force Museum Historian.
The Second Mission, Minister-Counselor, Rebeca Hernández, in her speech thanked the authorities of the SA Air Force Museum for their warm welcome, the SANDF reported. The delegation of the Cuban Embassy visited the museum as part of the commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the Union of Young Communists of Cuba and the 60th anniversary of the Organisation of Pioneers “José Martí”, both organisations created by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
The role of Cuban combatants in Angola was noted, with Angolan and FAPLA uniforms on display at Swartkop. Cubans combatants in Angola that participated in the visit were: Aldo Javier Valdez 1979 – 1981; Jose Antonio Rodriguez 1989 – 1991; Pedro Julio Mena 1989 – 1991; and Antonio Jardines 1983 – 1986.
