SA exports over 700 MRAP in 2008

South Africa exported over 700 new and refurbished armoured personnel carrier and infantry combat vehicles to 11 countries and two peace missions in 2008 according to the UN Conventional Arms Control Register.

 

The bulk of the vehicles went to the US, followed by Thailand and Spain. Canada also received 77 armour protected cab for fitting to Mercedes Benz Actros trucks then due for deployment in Afghanistan.

The 720 mine resistant armour protected vehicles add to the about 2500 new and refurbished vehicles and armoured cars exported in the 12 previous years.
