More police forces sign up for Metal Storm’s MAUL

A third Australian Police Force has requested an opportunity to trial the Metal Storm MAUL 12-gauge weapon system. This follows last week’s announcement that two Australian Police Forces had committed to trial the new weapon.

Metal Storm Inc. (MSI) has advised at the same time, that it has received a purchase order for the evaluation of the MAUL from the East Marlborough Township Police Department in the United States. East Marlborough Township is a small suburban community in the greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania metropolitan area.

Metal Storm CEO, Dr Lee Finniear said that he was pleased not only with the groundswell of committed interest in the MAUL, but also that this is being exhibited by agencies of varying sizes from differing countries.
“We are delighted that a third major Australian Police Force will trial the MAUL for law enforcement operations and we look forward to delivering the systems and support their need to successfully evaluate the weapon system” he said.

MSI President, Peter Faulkner said that the order from East Marlborough Township Police Department is a testament of the MAUL’s universal appeal across agencies of all sizes.
“Our marketing efforts are focused not only on the nearly 400 major metropolitan areas in the US but the more than 17,000 local law enforcement agencies that exist in the US. East Marlborough Township Police Department is representative of one of thousands of the smaller local municipalities that can benefit from the utility the MAUL offers. The fact that East Marlborough Township Police Department is trialling the MAUL for its local community operations clearly shows that the MAUL market is much larger and broader than might otherwise be expected. It extends all the way from the huge federal agencies right down to the many thousands of small community police departments throughout the USA”.
“Internationally MAUL continues to gather momentum even before we enter production”, Finniear said last week. “At present we have formal enquiries and/or requests for trial from 46 US domestic law enforcement agencies, 6 US Federal law enforcement agencies and 11 other international law enforcement agencies.”

Metal Storm recently announced it is collaborating with TASER International to integrate TASER capabilities into MAUL using the TASER XREP projectile and increase its capability for law enforcement operations.

Finniear said, “Recent published market research states that the global non-lethal weapons market is expected to grow three-fold by 2020. Demand for MAUL is undeniable and getting this weapon into production is a top priority for the company…In the short term we are focusing our resources onto MAUL to meet this growing demand for trials and the potential for near term deployments.”

MAUL is a lightweight, modular, 12 gauge, 5 shot, semi automatic shotgun aimed at both military and law enforcement operators. It has been designed to deliver shotgun capabilities for non-lethal and lethal munitions. All this capability weighs in at only 1.8 lb, making it one of the lightest semi-automatic, 12 gauge weapons developed. MAUL can fire 5 rounds as fast as the user can pull the trigger, and can be rapidly reloaded in one smooth movement by inserting another 5 round munition tube into the receiver.

MAUL can be mounted as a module on a combat rifle or used on its own stand alone stock. It is offered with a range of less lethal munitions such as blunt impact, electro-muscular incapacitation, frangible nose chemical and marker munitions, together with lethal munitions including buckshot.
