Harris Corporation has been awarded a $405 million foreign military sales contract for Morocco for Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems (SINCGARS).

The US Department of Defence announced the contract on 6 May, noting that estimated completion date of the contract is 21 April 2024. “Funding and work location will be determined with each order,” it said in the announcement.

Harris said it will provide a wide range of tactical communications equipment, including export versions of its Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System; ground and airborne configurations of the SpearNet Team Member radio; associated products and spares; and training, installation, and field service support.
“Harris’ SINCGARS and other tactical radios deliver situational awareness into the hands of the warfighter,” said Chris Young, president, Harris Communication Systems. “This agreement expands the range of communications products and services Harris provides to international customers under FMS contracts.”

Harris was awarded $20 million in orders under the foreign military sales programme in April to supply vehicle-based SINCGARS to the Army Communications-Electronics Command’s service branch partners in the Middle East and North Africa, including Morocco, Kuwait and Qatar. Work is expected to be completed in February 2021.

Other African countries are due to receive Harris radios. In September last year the US Department of Defence said it had awarded Harris a $65 669 054 foreign military sales contract for Ukraine, Lithuania, Lebanon, Chad, Niger, Mauritania, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Ethiopia covering options for Harris Radio Systems, antennas, BMS software, data terminals, touch tablets, field service representatives, and training for installation, operation and maintenance.

The radios involve include the multiband AN/PRC-152A and AN/PRC-117G. The AN/APRC-152 Multiband Handheld Radio (Harris Falcon III) handheld radio provides simultaneous voice and high-speed data services and is interoperable with narrowband line of sight and SATCOM communications such as SINCGARS, Havequick II, and VHF/UHF AM and FM in the 30-512 MHz range.

The Harris Falcon III AN/PRC-117G(V)1(C) Multiband Networking Manpack Radio covers the 30 MHz to 2 GHz frequency range, and is 30% smaller and 35% lighter than currently fielded multiband manpack radios and operates off a single standard battery.

An estimated completion date of 30 September 2016.
