France helps Egypt detect IEDs

The French military has deployed an engineering detachment to Egypt to help its military detect improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The French defence ministry said the detachment was deployed to Egypt from 20 April to 5 May. It will soon take part in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

The Egyptian sappers were able to benefit from French techniques and equipment for combating improvised explosive devices, the French defence ministry said, adding that its engineers had gained much experience in Mali.
