The South African National Defence Force has placed a further order on Reutech Communications for the supply and delivery of Harris manpack transceivers. The order, worth R1.2 million, is an extension of a R5.7 million order awarded in December 2009, and takes the amount spent on Harris equipment to R36 366 512.69 since 2008.

The Harris Corporation is a Florida-based international communications equipment company that produces wireless equipment, electronic systems, and both terrestrial and spaceborne antennas for use in the government, defence, and commercial sectors.

It is not clear what has been purchased from the company or why US technology was acquired in preference for a South African solution. At least two of the orders to date – last year and in 2009 – were for the benegit of the elite Special Forces.
