Sunday is Remembrance Day with the annual national civic remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony at the Johannesburg Cenotaph the major event.

A parade with SANDF Regular and Reserve Force units along with ex-service organisations including the Gunners Association, SA Infantry Association, SA Air Force Association and MK, Apla and AZANLA veterans associations as well as the SA Police Service, Johannesburg metro police and the city’s emergency services and volunteer organisations including the Sa Red Cross, Noodhulpliga, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides will march in column past the Cenotaph.

This will be the 95th consecutive year South Africans have recognised and remembered those who lost their lives in service of their country.

On Saturday 11 Regular and Reserve Force units will exercise their right of Freedom of the City by marching with colours flying and bayonets fixed. Saturday’s parade will be held at the Altrec Stadium in Alexandra with Johannesburg metro council speaker Connie Bapela the main civilian functionary. Major General Lindile Yam, GOC of the SA Army Infantry Formation, will represent Chief of the Army and take the salute alongside Bapela.
