African military writing competition expanding military knowledge

The African Armed Forces Journal has launched the 14th Military Writing Competition in order to provide a platform for insight into all aspects of African military affairs, with a first prize of $2 600 cash.

Given the lack of contemporary writers on African military affairs, the African Armed Forces, in conjunction with Denel, have embarked on a competition directly aimed at reigniting this ethos on the continent.

Creating a collection of professionally-written articles will help exemplify the significance of military thought on African affairs. This purpose is best-served in a competition format, with the winner receiving a cash prize of $2 600; the second place winner receiving $1 300 and the third place winner receiving $650.

All entries remain property of the authors, but as the writing competition is organised by the African Armed Forces Journal, it reserves the right of first publication. Submissions must be between 2 500 and 3 000 words and submitted to [email protected]

Submissions close on March 31 this year. All submissions must be under the name of the author. A cover page should be included which identifies the manuscript as an entry for: The 2013 AAFJ Military Writing Competition, giving the title of the entry and the author’s name and address.
