German company WEW is promoting its modular liquid logistics solution at IDEX 2015, offering systems for the safe handling of water, fuel, lubricants, waste and other liquids.
The high-mobility modules that form the core of WEW’s solutions are purpose-designed to be carried on a wide variety of vehicles from small MRAPs (Mine-Resistance, Ambush-Protected vehicles) through to high mobility 8x8s and many are air-portable by rotary or fixed-wing aircraft.
“One estimate of the Afghanistan campaign reckoned that fuel accounted for 77% of the logistics load comprising about 2,000 fuel trucks per day to support the mission at peak operations. This is a very large number of journeys where lives were put at considerable risk in a war-zone,” said Dr Ulrich Bernhardt, Chief Executive Officer of WEW. “Defence Forces are increasingly recognising that by adopting a modular approach to refuelling, utilising intelligent systems and replenishing only when and where it is really necessary, substantially reduces this logistic burden,” he added.
“WEW’s turn-key approach including the use of advanced telematics ensures that the fuel, water or waste modules need only be loaded, unloaded or handled when necessary, rather than by rote. This, combined with WEW’s total solution approach, has a significant impact on the number of journeys required, thereby minimising cost and risk.”
WEW’s consultancy-based approach includes not only the modules themselves, but also Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and financial packages, as well as full Contractor Logistic Support (CLS), Contracting for Availability (CFA) and outright purchase. This enables customers to choose the best acquisition solution tailor-made to their requirements, the company said.
WEW delivers deployable fuel and water modules, with capacities ranging from 2,000 to 80,000 litres. All WEW systems are purpose-designed for “Plug and Play” simplicity, most are easily transportable through any civilian or military logistics chain and many systems are air-portable. All WEW solutions provide a “Drop & Go” fuel and water capability for any deployment. This way, forces deployed on expeditionary operations can be assured of extremely rapid deployment and redeployment, even in the most forward and hostile operating areas, WEW said.
WEW will be showcasing its logistics solutions at IDEX 2015 being held in Abu Dhabi from 22-16 February.
