The US Embassy in Pretoria began hosting a week-long workshop on Life Cycle Management as part of a larger programme on Logistics Development on August 3, 2015. The workshop was set to conclude with the participants receiving certificates in Life Cycle Management.
This was the first workshop in a series covering multiple aspects of logistics management – including Life Cycle Management, Facilities Management, Logistics Execution, and Development – on which US Embassy Pretoria partnered with the Logistics Division of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
“The main objective of the workshops is to give logistics experts from all services of the South African military a different view on how to do logistics,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Porres from the US Embassy. He said that the workshop presents the US model on logistics management, and that he hopes that the course will allow participants to improve their current logistics development efforts. Porres added that events like this workshop help strengthen the longstanding partnership and cooperation between SANDF and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Kennel Kamte Boer, who manages logistical training for the SANDF, said the US Embassy extended an invitation to the SANDF to participate in the programme. The Republic of South Africa and the United States have a Memorandum of Understanding that facilitates cooperation on joint training.
“This program offers a wide range of defence acquisitions resource management programmes to its partner nations, and South Africa is part of them.” She added that this programme is intended to strengthen democratic relations and international security cooperation through acquisition, education research, and professional service. Boer noted that she was looking forward to the other courses that the US Embassy will host in the near future.
