Kenyan security forces help deliver donated EU vehicles

Kenyan security forces last week facilitated the delivery of two Toyota vehicles donated by the European Union mission EUCAP Nestor, which aims to strengthen security in the region.

The two vehicles were transferred to Kenyan security forces on January 11 by the EU Naval Force flagship FS Siroco of the French Navy.

The successful delivery, which was carried out with the support of the French Embassy in Mombasa, and in close cooperation with Kenyan Security Forces, highlighted the full cooperation of European Union missions in the Horn of Africa and how they work together through the EU’s Comprehensive Approach, the EU Naval Force said.

Upon EUCAP Nestor’s request for logistic assistance, the two vehicles were embarked in FS Siroco in Djibouti and transferred by sea to Mombasa. They will be transferred to the EUCAP Nestor Mogadishu office.

After the delivery operation ended, EU Navfor Force Commander, Rear Admiral Herve Blejean commented: “This vehicle delivery assistance performed today for EUCAP Nestor is clearly one of the examples showing the increasingly cooperative and dynamic EU operations in the region. EU Naval Force will continue to support the EU’s comprehensive approach throughout our area of operations.”

EUCAP Nestor is a civilian mission aimed at strengthening the Rule of Law in Somalia, with an initial focus on the regions of Puntland and Somaliland, and developing the maritime capacities of Djibouti, Kenya, and the Seychelles.
