Renovations of 9 South African Infantry (SAI) Battalion accommodation have almost been completed and are due to be finished by the end of June.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) said by the beginning of June, upgrade work was 80% completed.
The South African Engineer Formation was tasked by Chief of Army Lieutenant General Lindile Yam to renovate 9 SAI accommodation. Members of 1 Construction Regiment were tasked with the work, having been involved in numerous projects both internally and externally.
9 SAI is based in Eerste River, Western Cape. Officer Commanding Lieutenant Colonel Dibuwe Tigele said he is very pleased with the progress of the engineers and is very keen on keeping the engineers in his unit to help with renovating other facilities, since there has not been renovation work in more than 20 years.
According to the Department of Defence, millions of Rands has been allocated to upgrade the sick bay and ten buildings at 9 SAI. This is amongst dozens of refurbishment projects underway within the SANDF.
