Mr P J Groenewald (FF Plus) to ask the Minister of Police:
(1) Whether he or the Commissioner of Police intends to impose restrictions on persons who want to join the SA Police Service (SAPS) as reservists; if so, (a) what are these restrictions and (b) when will it be implemented;

(2) how many reservists are currently in the employ of the SAPS in each province;
(3) whether he will make a statement on the matter?

REPLY:

The South African Police Service is in the process of finalizing the Reservist Policy, after it was recently reviewed. The purpose of the review of the policy was to improve standards and conditions for reservists, improve the system for utilization and management of reservists and to adopt improved criteria for the selection and recruitment of reservists. The intended amendments and proposed restrictions will only be communicated after final approval of the revised policy.

The revised policy will be implemented after final consultation and approval by the myself.



The following number of active reservists are currently performing duties in the provinces Active refers to reservists that perform at least sixteen (16) hours voluntary duty per month.
