Ms B C Blaai (Cope) to ask the Minister of Correctional Services:

Whether the Imbeleko programme is (a) fully operational and (b) achieving its objectives of alleviating the plight of mothers with babies in correctional centres; if not, why not, in each case; if so, what are the relevant details in each case?

Yes. The Imbeleko Programme is fully operational in all six Regions.

Yes. The programme is achieving its objectives to alleviate the plight of mothers with babies.

To seek alternative placement of babies out of correctional facilities to the care of their biological father, extended families or foster care.



To improve the living conditions for those babies who are under the age of two years, whose circumstances allow them to be in the facilities of Correctional Services Department whilst seeking alternative placement
