Trump, Macron talk Sahel counter-terrorism


US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, discussed joint counterterrorism operations in the Sahel region of Africa, the White House said in a statement.

Ahead of the phone call the US military said a fourth soldier was killed during an October 4 attack in Niger, an incident that has thrown a spotlight on the US counter-terrorism mission in the West African nation.

Macron expressed condolences over the Las Vegas shooting while Trump conveyed condolences regarding a knife attack in Marseilles, the statement said.
