SA spends R4.3bn on peacekeeping

South Africa has spent R4.304 billion securing peace and security in Africa since April 2004.

 

 

That has emerged from the answer to a question asked by Democratic Alliance deputy defence shadow minister James Lorimer.

The Department of Defence could not say how much of this had been reimbursed by the African Union and the United Nations. “The Minster of Finance would be in a position to respond to this question as this is within the ambit of National Treasury and not Defence,” the DoD said in its answer. Refurbishments are paid into the National Treasury’s “B7” account and does not return to the DoD.

 

In theory SA should receive a 100% refund but problems with equipment serviceability and related issues reduce actual reimbursement.
