Russia and Angola strengthen military ties

Russia is ready to increase the development of military and military-technical cooperation with Angola. This is according to Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Fomin during talks with his Angolan counterpart.

The Russian defence ministry on 21 August said Fomin noted the commonality of the approaches of the two countries to threats and challenges in the sphere of security during talks with Angola’s State Secretary for Defence Policy and International Cooperation Admiral Gaspar dos Santos Rufino.

For many decades relations between Russia and Angola have been based on basic principles, such as equality and respect. There are no contradictions, unsolvable questions. Russia and Angola are distinguished by their unity of views, the Russian ministry of defence said.

Rufino noted that Angola is interested in Russia strengthening its positions on the international arena.

Angola is interested in making Russia stronger in order to maintain a balance in the world.
“We could also support Russia in the international context, regarding certain issues. We always voice support for many Russian initiatives and decisions. And we are interested in Russia becoming stronger in order to support balance in the world,” Rufino added.

Fomin expressed gratitude to the Angolan military and political leadership for its commitment to the further strengthening of ties with Russia and participation in Russias International Army Games and the Army-2018 defense industry forum.
