Kenyan defence ministry seeks more funding

Kenya, which sent troops into Somalia in October, has requested an extra 12.5 billion shillings for the defence ministry for the 2011/12 fiscal year that ends on June 30, according to supplementary budget estimates.

Overall, the increase in recurrent expenditure that needs to be funded by the end of the fiscal year came to 21.5 billion shillings. However, the government also said it plans to cut development spending by 17.3 billion, Reuters reports.
