EU vice president Federica Mogherini this week visited the Horn of Africa calling on three EU common security and defence policy missions as well as Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
While in the Somali capital Mogadishu Mogherini visited personnel and troops currently deployed to EU NavFor Operations Atalanta, EU CAP Somalia and EUTM Somalia.
Apart from involvement in security in and around the Horn of Africa, the EU works on strengthening its partnership with the region in other areas as well according to a statement. This includes climate change, boosting investment, improving migration management creating opportunities for young people.
The Somali Prime Minister wrote on Twitter after meeting Mogherini: “I shared the exciting progress we have made on all fronts, looking forward to working with EU in 2019 our year of implementation”.
They discussed the current role and involvement of European Union operations and missions in Somalia and implementation of the Somali government’s reform agenda since the Somalia Partnership came into being.
