CNavy in Azerbaijan


The Chief of the South African Navy, Vice Admiral Mosiwa Hlongwane, has visited Azerbaijan’s military representatives during a trip to the Asian nation.

Azerbaijan’s defence ministry on 26 October said Hlongwane visited Azerbaijan Naval Forces and the Azerbaijan Military Academy as part of a trip within the framework of the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

Hlongwane met with the Chief of Staff of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Captain 1st Rank Shahin Mammadov, and visited the naval faculty of the Azerbaijan Military Academy, where he studied in 1987-1991.

Hlongwane joined the ANC and its Military wing Umkhonto We Sizwe in 1982 and was trained in Angola and the former USSR. In August 1986, he was selected to attend the Naval Course in Azerbaijan where he specialised in Ship Navigation Command for a period of four and half years. In November 1991, he successfully completed the Naval Ship Command Course in Navigation and he obtained a qualification of Diploma in Ship Navigation at the Caspian Naval Red Banner College.
