UK plans 50 bln stg defence kit, support spending

Britain plans to spend around 50 billion pounds (US$78 billion) over the next four years on defence equipment and support at a time when its overall defence budget is contracting, said a junior defence minister.

“Over the next four years — despite the reductions we have had to make – we will be spending around 50 billion pounds on equipment and support,” Peter Luff said in a speech, reports Reuters.
“We will explore whether we can take steps to help SMEs (smaller and medium-sized companies) access larger contracts normally placed with major prime contractors,” he added.
