SVI launches Systems Integration division

SVI Engineering, well known for manufacturing armoured and security vehicles, has launched a systems integration division called SVI Systems and Solutions.

SVI is partnering with several OEMs to offer a wide array of systems for integration to their customer vehicles. Rather than developing its own products SVI is doing Level 5 systems integration with qualified products. L5 System Integration entail the development of hardware and software interfaces as well as the Logistic support of such systems.

The new division, launched at the recent Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition outside Pretoria, is aimed largely at new and vehicle upgrade programmes. SVI can offer system integration services for the integration of products such as vehicle communications, intercoms, battle management systems, remote weapons, sniper detection systems, situational awareness systems, active protections systems, ground penetrating radar systems, long range acoustic devices and signature reduction systems. Integration of such products ensures the distribution of information between products to allow accurate and effective solutions.

SVI also have many years of experience in fire control and as such offer solutions such as automated mortar systems and the supply of fire control systems, especially for artillery. Such systems include launcher management, meteorological systems, command posts, mounted and dismounted observer systems.
“We can use multiple products to get the best blend out of the industry,” Eric Dodds at SVI told defenceWeb. “We have fire control and battle management systems but a big focus is going to be more from the user perspective – what does the user want, not necessarily what we think is good.”

Dodds added that Africa and the Middle East are the main markets SVI is pursuing.

Johan Small, Key Account Manager at SVI, said the company is negotiating agreements with original local and foreign equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and as such offer these products with their services to any local and foreign vehicle supplier. In some cases, and in accordance with OEM agreements, SVI also produces certain products for distribution into the Middle Eastern and African markets.

SVI’s facility is based East of Pretoria and offers solutions that include basic armed response vehicles, security vehicles, luxury civilian vehicles, cash in transit and bullion trucks, military armoured personnel carriers and more recently, armoured solutions for locomotive fleets. It also offers armoured guard houses.
