SA exported 508 MRAP in 2009

5264

South Africa exported 508 mine resistant armour protected (MRAP) vehicles and three armoured cabins to 11 countries in calendar year 2009. This according to South Africa’s latest submission to the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms. The submission was made December 16 last year.

This is substantially down from the 720 new and refurbished MRAP South Africa exported to 11 countries and two peace missions in 2008 and the 692 exported to seven countries and two international humanitarian organisations in 2007.

As in previous years, the bulk of the vehicles in 2009 went to the US. The latest exports add to the resistant armour protected vehicles add to the about 3244 new and refurbished vehicles and armoured cars exported in the 13 previous years.
