The Paramount team assisted the Thusong Children’s Orphanage and the MES Kempton City Homeless Shelter.
Paramount Group celebrated Mandela Day today by supporting the Thusong Children’s Orphanage, in Tembisa, and the MES Kempton City Homeless Shelter in Kempton Park, providing new infrastructure, upgrading facilities and donations from employees of clothes, bedding and food parcels.
Paramount’s Midrand Campus hosted a fun-filled programme for the children of Thusong, with activities including a jumping castle, a baseball play-off, a soccer challenge, a photo booth, cupcake decoration and a dance challenge.
While the kids were being entertained, a special crew of Paramount volunteers moved in to their home in Thusong and installed new bunk beds, cupboards, mattresses and bedding.
John Craig, CEO of Paramount Industrial Holdings, said: “We are proud to celebrate Mandela Day by reaching out to the communities where we operate, who have the greatest needs. It is through these acts of kindness that we as a nation can perpetuate Madiba’s legacy of making our world a better place for all.
“We adopted the Thusong Children’s Orphanage, which is closely situated to our Midrand Campus, last year. The home is looking after 22 children between the ages of three and 15, and they need a lot of support. Our commitment to them doesn’t end after today; our support will continue throughout the year. As part of our corporate social responsibility, it is our aim to adopt and support orphanages in each of the communities where our facilities are located.”
On the east side of Johannesburg, Paramount Isando Campus’ team of volunteers visited the MES Kempton City Homeless Shelter to repaint and upgrade a container and an after-school care centre for destitute and abandoned children.
MES Kempton Park is a homeless shelter in Kempton Park that offers after-school care and a trauma room. It has a unique after-school centre that accommodates up to 20 children every day, providing a meal to the kids and helping them with their homework and studying for their exams.
The Paramount team also handed out school bags and other donations received from employees and entertained the children for the day at a children’s party venue in the East Rand. Kids participated in all sorts of activities, including a jumping castle, pony rides and animal feeding.
