No injuries reported from Denel Aeronautics fire

No injuries were reported from a fire at Denel’s Kempton Park campus on Wednesday morning.

Denel said in a statement that the fire was contained after it broke out at the Aero Engines MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) business unit of Denel Aeronautics.

Michael Kgobe, Denel Aeronautics’ CEO, says an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

The emergency response plan was activated, and employees from the affected areas were sent home for the rest of the day while an investigation takes place, Kgobe said.

Inspectors from the Ekurhuleni Municipality were on site to evaluate the extent of the damage and advice on the safety of the building where the fire took place and adjacent structures.

“Denel is implementing measures to ensure that the business continues without major interruptions,” the company said.
